Outrage as Greek National Theater stages N17 terrorist S. Xiros’ play

Terrorism turned to art at Greek state theater

The National Theater of Greece’s decision to stage a play based on the book by November 17 terrorist Savvas Xiros on the minutes of the hearings in the court case against him has prompted public outrage. The work, “Nash Equilibrium”, is based on the strategies of the two sides as seen during the trial and outlined in the convicted terrorist’s own book, “That Day – 1560 hours in intensive care – A testimony of our own Guadanamo”. The play’s title is borrowed from game theory and the work, adapted for the stage by Pigi Dimitrakopoulou, was deemed to be appropriate for the state theater’s experimental stage.

The play purportedly shows the “codes of value, justice and terrorism in modern Greek history” but it has come under fire from victims of the terrorist group and is viewed as glorifying the activities of a known criminal.

The US embassy released a statement:

Πρεσβεία ΗΠΑ: Χρηματοδοτείτε την τέχνη ενός τρομοκράτη

Photos of terrorism victims and fury over a play like this being staged at Greece’s state theater were expressed on social media.

Former ND MP George Voulgarakis: “The National (Theater) stages a work based on the book of terrorist S. Xiros. Let’s head to the Herod Atticus Theater as a sample of global culture!!!”

seed: “If Xiros has humor, he’d put a bomb at the National on the day they perform his work #greece”

Nikos Dendias MP: “I suggest that Savvas Xiros be invited as an honored guest in Parliament. It is a pity not to have first-hand contact with his thought.”

Dora Bakoyannis MP (widowed by N17’s assassination of her husband): “S. Xiros stated that he has paid his dues. Will he bring back the fathers of our children?”

Konstandinos Bogdanos (anchorman): “‘Democracy’ is whatever is theater. Xiros at the national is a state propaganda-laundering-contract, so-called democrat.”

Stathis Drogosis: “I see freedom of speech supporters shouting for the presentation at the National. Gather outside like Golden Dawn members…”

Apostolos Andriotis: “Xiros work at the National is a bomb”

Former Athens Mayor: “The National Theater of Greece is promoting the murders of a terrorist. The bones of (legendary Greek actors associated with the theater) Politis, Rodiris, Paxinos, Kourkoulos are shaking.”
