At around 01:30, two cars with 7-8 young men arrived at the site. When the youths noticed the campers, they approached them and harassed them with questions: “Where are you from? We are from Menidi”. When they explained they were volunteers cleaning up the mountain, the strangers left. After 10 minutes, however, they returned in cars and shouted, as one of the victims of the attack said, “We have come back”.

“We could not react because we were lying on the ground, so they started beating and stabbing us mercilessly,” said one victim of the attack and added that before they could react, they were gone. One of the volunteers was stabbed 3 times in the back and once more in the shoulder, and his nose was also broken from the blows. They also say they spent half the night worrying about the fate of the volunteer with the multiple stab wounds.

In a post, one of the volunteers wrote “We’ve seen many different animals in the Greek landscape, but it was humans who harmed us.”
