Greece was in the news again last summer when former conservative prime minister Antonis Samaras said, “We stand before an extremely important finding!” He underlined that the world spotlight would be cast on Greece. His words proved prophetic with Amphipolis enthusiasts hanging onto every new discovery from the tomb. Speculation over the mystery occupant of the tomb took Greece’s eyes away from the real problems that have come to sweep through the country like a huge tsunami. A year later, with a new PM, Greece is once again in the international spotlight and we never did get to find out who the mystery occupant of the huge tomb was.
