Zografeion High School is one of the remaining open Greek community schools in Istanbul. It opened its doors in 1893 with the aid of Greek banker, Christakis Zografos, financial adviser to Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II. Thousands of Greek scholars have passed through its doors, including Patriarch Bartholomew II. Today, the remarkable building houses a few more than a dozen students. Sometimes classes take place with just one or two students.
