Standing 216-meters above sea level, it is worth the 999 steps to enjoy the rewarding view. Built by the Venetians, the baroque fortress was based on the plans of engineers Giaxich and Lasalle. In 1715 it was captured by the Ottomans and they controlled it until 1822, when it was captured by the Greeks.
