The president of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was informed by PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the arrest of the candidate for mayor of Himarra, Freddy Beleris, as the prime minister announced in a post on Facebook.

“I informed the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen about the arrest, based on non-existent charges, of the candidate for Mayor of Heimarra and member of the Greek National Minority, Freddy Beleris, two days before the elections. Albania must realize that Greece and the E.U. are not going to accept discounts on the Rule of Law and the protection of the rights of the Greek National Minority,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.

The PM said that Greece would accept any concessions on the rights of the Greek minority in Albania.
