Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis posted on his Twitter account about last night’s first contact with US President Joe Biden over the phone.
The PM wrote it was a warm and constructive talk that took place on the day of our National Anniversary and shortly after the end of the Summit.
The communication between the two leaders, which lasted about 30 minutes, was completed shortly after 11 pm Greek time. Regarding the content of the contact, the Prime Minister said in a twitter post:
Following the #EUCO, I had a warm and constructive phone call with @POTUS. We discussed at length the common ties between our two nations, on the occasion of the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, as well as the importance of the continuous strengthening of our partnership.

During the conversation, the US President congratulated the Prime Minister on the completion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, emphasising that the same ideals of Freedom and Democracy inspired the American Revolution and continue to unite the two peoples.
He stressed that the people of the United States today celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution as the culmination of the historic friendship between the two nations.
He expressed his personal commitment to this friendship during his political career and praised the Greek-American community, with which he has a very close relationship, for his contribution to the progress and prosperity of the United States.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked Joe Biden for his wishes and stressed their importance for Hellenism. He congratulated him on his election, expressing Greece’s readiness to work closely with the United States in international fora, to defend the common values of the two countries, with an emphasis on human rights and the fight against climate change.
