Refugee activists in France ask for EU-UK to open borders

2,000 marched on the Calais Channel in France

Nearly 2,000 refugee activists in France marched to protest against the EU and UK’s policies of closed borders. Their protest march ended at the Calais Channel, where 10 refugees had lost their lives on June 10. The UK has come under harsh criticism for refusing to open the Channel that connect France and the UK to receive refugees and migrants, while the EU member-states are divided on a proposal tabled by the European Commission that would see refugees and migrants distributed among all the EU member-states based on a quote scheme.
