Shocking video shows boy, 4, run over and killed by car in Athens

The car driver was arrested

Newsroom January 25 06:28

A shocking video shows a four-year-old boy killed by an oncoming car as he was trying to cross a road in Kato Patisia.

The accident happened last Sunday in Grava in the Ano Patisia neighbourhood. According to information available to protothema.gr, the four-year-old child escaped the attention of his parents and ran crossed the road. The driver of a passing vehicle did not manage to brake in time, as a result of which the child was suddenly found under the wheels of the car, in a pool of blood, as eyewitnesses say in protothema.gr.

The video of the tragic incident was published by ALPHA and as residents say, it is not the first time that fatal accidents have taken place in Taygetou Street of Grava as there is no signage, little lighting and drivers often pass at high speeds.

The little boy arrived by EKAB ambulance at the Children’s Hospital with severe craniocerebral injuries. There, despite the efforts of the doctors to keep him alive, the seriously injured 4-year-old left his last breath. The driver was arrested by police on a charge of manslaughter.

The child was with his parents in the area of the Cultural Center of Grava, where there is a playground, a park, and a theatre. The place has insufficient lighting, and is extremely dangerous for pedestrians and car drivers.

Residents told protothema.gr that “many passing cars pass at crazy speeds – there is neither a passage nor a sign with a limit speed. They keep talking about these problems in the municipality and nothing is being done.”
