Staikouras: Contract signed for the supply of 100 natural gas buses to be deployed in Athens

"By 2025, all of these vehicles will be operating on the streets of Athens"

A contract for the supply of 100 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), with a length of 18 meters, to be deployed in Athens, was signed today by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, and the Head of Europe Commercial Operations of Iveco Bus, Giorgio Zino.

“We estimate that by 2025, all of these vehicles will be operating on the streets of Athens,” stated the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport during the signing ceremony of the contract.

Mr. Staikouras elaborated on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s comprehensive plan for renewing the bus fleet in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Furthermore, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport emphasized, “We have set a target to deploy the procurement of 1,300 new urban buses with modern anti-pollution technology, which will upgrade urban transportation in Athens and Thessaloniki. Today’s signing of the contract for the supply of 100 urban vehicles, 18 meters long, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), is a significant step.”

The Head of Europe Commercial Operations at Iveco Bus, Giorgio Zino, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the procurement process for the new buses, referring to it as a major innovation significant for the citizens.

“We are taking a step forward in terms of the environment, as the vehicles are fully ecological, and we look forward to future cooperation,” added Mr. Zino.
