In honor of World Wildlife Day, March 3, National Geographic photographers share their favorite wildlife photos from the sea, on land, and in the air.
This year’s UN-sponsored World Wildlife Day theme is “The future of wildlife is in our hands” and celebrates wild animals and plants all over the world.
The day also gives the opportunity to spread awareness about threats facing species, such as African and Asian elephants. It highlights the relationship between human beings and wildlife and how people can help different species survive.
“Photography can change the world,” says National Geographic photographer Steve Winter. “We need images that inspire us to care and to act to save our planet.”
