On Monday the General Synod of the Anglican Church approved the ordination of women bishops, a historic decision for a taboo subject.
Specifically, the UN General Assembly which convened in York endorsed the proposal promoted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Ouelmpi, the spiritual leader of 80 million Anglicans worldwide.
The same proposal was rejected by 6 votes back in November of 2012. However, on Monday 152 members voted in favor and 45 voted against while five abstained.
The reform has to be approved by the British parliament and Queen Elizabeth, which is the head of the Anglican Church.
Based on the above information, the first women bishops could be ordained within 2015.
