The naked protestor pays tribute to the November 17 uprising (photos)

A young man streaked through Aristotle University of Thessaloniki without clothes to mark the occasion of the students’ revolt

Yiannis Maskidis was photographed nude at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to commemorate the November 17 student uprising of 1973. Maskidis thought that a good way to pay tribute to the anniversary of the historic sit-in that led to the later fall of the Greek military dictatorship that began in 1967 would be to publish a few photographs of himself in Thessaloniki. The photo was published on his social media account.

He writes:

“The Polytechnic lives and lives, not just a unique life, because that would be boring, but many lives. Lives that develop, conflict with others and within themselves, through the process of attributing identities to this historic event. The identification with these is what make the historic event continue to live and generate New Ideas, to give Impetus to new procedures, to make us see not just the peak of the iceberg but also what lies beneath the surface. The polytechnic for me isn’t just a static event it is a procedure. This day isn’t just a day of expansion, but a day of public expression of the above concept.”
