Three Greek hotels pick up top honours at the Historic Hotels of Europe Awards 2022

Esperas Santorini picked up the golden award

Newsroom April 6 03:12

The number of entries in the 8th Historic Hotels of Europe Awards exceeded all expectations. The 30 winners of the 10 categories were selected by a huge number of tourists and scholars of culture and history, who voted for their favorite candidate hotels.

This year, the awards included two new categories, the Historic Hotel Sustainability Award for sustainability and the New Entry Historic Hotel Award for hotels recently added to the collection.

For Greece, the golden award in the category of romantic hotel, the Historic Romantic Hideaway Hotel Award 2022, was won by Esperas Santorini, in Oia, Santorini. Perched high on the rocks of Oia, each of the 17 traditional island studios of the collection is carved into the rock, thus emphasizing the characteristics of island architecture and decoration, while its private terraces offer sea views.

In the category of the best natural location, Historic Natural Setting Hotel Award 2022, the silver award went to the hotel Kyrimai, in Gerolimenas, Mani. This is a property that is a wonderful example of architecture, with 18 rooms and suites, award-winning cuisine, and important distinctions, both in Greece and in Europe. The menu of his restaurant, inspired by the ingredients, flavors, and aromas of Mani, offers the modern visitor a refined aspect of Greek gastronomy.

Finally, the bronze medal in the new category related to sustainability, Historic Hotel Sustainability Award, received the Allegory Boutique Hotel in Rhodes. The hotel has a beautiful balance between tradition and modern design. Its 6 suites, with ergonomically designed space, retain the impressive wooden beams of the original architecture. Earthy colors, refined décor, artwork, and solid stone walls are some of the special features of Allegory Suites.
