‘To Potami’ coastal campaign heads to the beach

The volunteers of the newly created centrist party “To Potami” (The River) will drive from beach to beach in the Attica region dressed in summer attire (swimsuit, flip flops, etc.) today and tomorrow to inform beachgoers about the party’s stand regarding the government’s new draft bill for coastal development.

“Leave nothing on the beach but footprints” is the central message of the 20,000 leaflets which the party’s leader Stavros Theodorakis will distribute personally, with the help of 15 young volunteers. The team will sweep the beaches of Attica riding on motorcycles.

The leaflets contain the party’s views regarding a draft bill submitted by the Ministry of Finance which could limit the public’s right to access Greece’s shoreline and see private hotels sprawling all the way to the sea.

Under the title “Clean Minds-Clean beaches” the text states that the bill creates loopholes that could lead to tourism and coastal degradation.

It should be noted that the leaflets are just as useful as they are informative because they can be used as disposable ashtrays.
