Trivago: Two Greek cities among top ski destinations worldwide

Kastoria in Northern Greece was ranked 31st on the global list, while Portaria, in Magnesia prefecture, was ranked 33rd.

Although Greece is mostly known for its amazing beaches and idyllic islands, the mounntainous east Mediterranean country is increasingly a popular winter destination, as a survey conducted recently byTrivago shows.

Snow has been remained “white gold” by tourism professionals in the provinces during the non-summer season. The mountains surrounding the greater Athens area, in fact, were snow covered this week.

According to the data released by the hotel price comparison site, two Greek sites are among the top ski destinations worldwide for 2015. Specifically, the lake-side city of Kastoria in northern Greece was ranked 31st on the global list, while Portaria, in central Magnesia prefecture overlooking the port city of Volos, was ranked 33rd.

As expected, the first three places on the list were occupied by established winter destinations, namely, Tux-Hintertux in Austria, with a 89.96% popularity rate, followed by the Italian St. Ulrich, and another Austrian destination, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.
