Tsipras-Juncker meeting: Focused on “viable solution” for Greece (video)

Talks to decide on the future of Greece

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras arrived for his meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Monday. He appeared optimistic that a viable solution for Greece would be found during talks.

“I think this is the time for a substantial viable solution with Greece to come back to growth within the eurozone with social justice,” he said in English.

Speaking in Greek he said that Greece was trying to clinch a viable agreement, leaving behind primary surpluses, pension slashes, etc.

On his part, Juncker said that progress had been noted but remained uncertain that a deal would be agreed to on Monday.

Following his meeting with Juncker, Tsipras will also meet with other European leaders. Specifically there will be a group meeting with Juncker, IMF Chief Christine Lagarde, Eurogroup Chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem and ECB member Benoit Coeure.

At 7.30 p.m. Tsipras will meet with European Council President Donald Tusk He will take part at the European Council at 8 p.m. The Eurogroup meeting is set to start at 1.30 p.m.
