Turkish F-16 near Imia while DM lays memorial wreath

Two Turkish F-16 were flying in Turkish FIR next to Imia – However, there was no violation of Greek airspace

A Turkish F-16 fighter plane appeared in the skies near the islet of Imia on Friday as new Defense Minister Panos Kammenos was aboard a helicopter to lay a wreath in memory of three Hellenic Navy aviators killed during the 1996 Imia crisis when their chopper crashed in the vicinity.

However, there was no violation of Greek airspace, reports state.

A NH-90 helicopter carrying Kammenos over Imia maneuvered over the islet’s shore to allow the ministry delegation to lay a wreath.
