Vladimir Putin: Mass genocide against Russians is happening in Donbas by Ukrainian forces

A Russian committee claimed that the civilians found in the area controlled by Russian-backed separatists were killed by Ukrainian shelling

Newsroom February 16 07:31

Russian President Vladimir Putin called what is currently happening in Donbas a “genocide” and expressed hope that the United States and Europe, especially Germany and France, would exert a similar influence in Kiev to find a solution based on the agreements of Minsk.

“Let me add that what is happening in Donbas at the moment is exactly genocide,” the Russian president said during a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after their talks in Moscow.

Russia’s Investigative Committee claimed on Wednesday that mass graves of hundreds of Russian-speaking civilians had been found in the Donbas region, as the Russian government continued to accuse Ukraine of genocide and human rights violations in Donbas.

The committee claimed that the civilians found in the area controlled by Russian-backed separatists were killed by Ukrainian shelling. “The Investigative Committee continues to take all possible measures to uphold the principle of the inevitability of punishment for those responsible for committing crimes in Donetsk and Luhansk areas,” said the committee.

According to the Russian president, in order to solve the problem in Donbas, it is necessary to “start from the possibilities of implementing the Minsk agreements, which have not been fully used”.
