Wanted: Refugee lovers who lost a passionate love letter washed ashore on Samos

A Swedish journalist has begun an internet campaign to find Rose and Hamody, owners of a beautiful love letter that was carefully wrapped in cellophane, but lost during the perilous crossing

Swedish Foreign correspondent Erik Wiman is frantically scouring the internet to find the refugee couple that lost a love letter on the shores of the island of Samos, Greece. Covering the stories of refugees for Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet last October, Wiman found the letter wrapped carefully in a waterproof bag. He almost stepped on the letter on the beach and surmised that the person who lost the letter may have been forced to climb from the sea shore up to the mountain side.

The letter, written in Arabic, was addressed to a beloved “Rose”, and was written by “Hamody” that could be a nickname for Mohammed or Ahmad. Full of passion and desire some of the lines, translated by Aftonbladet, read: “I promise you, I will love you until the last minute of my life,” and “I promise you, I will not let anything separate us, whatever happens.”

Now, the search is on to find Rose and Hamody and reunite the lost lovers of the letter. “Please, Internet, help us now,” writes Wimon. “He and she are worth it.” He has begun a campaign to find the lost lovers using the hashtag #FindRose.
