Zoe Konstantopoulou announces new party

Ex-SYRIZA MP Rachel Makri also on board

Newsroom April 15 03:36

Former SYRIZA MP and ex-President of the pervious Greek assembly, Zoe Konstantopoulou, revealed the creation of her new party called ‘Plefsi Eletherias’ (Freedom Course) via a Facebook post, Friday. The new party’s symbol is a blue and purple boat on white background with the party’s name under the graphic. Another former SYRIZA and ANEL MP, Rachel Makri will be ‘on board’ the new party, as she made clear on her facebook page. In the post uploaded by Konstantopoulou wrote the official launch of the party would take place next Tuesday, on April 19. ‘We begin our course to the future. We start our common struggle for the liberation of our people and country from the shackles of the memoranda’, she writes in her post. Some of the points she raises in her post are indicative of her party’s platform and include reference to writing off Greek debt, claiming WWII German reparations and Greece regaining its national sovereignty. Konstantopoulou was part of group of former SYRIZA MPs that split off from the party after denouncing leader Alexis Tsipras for betraying the Greek people’s mandate in the July 2015 referendum and caving in to the country’s creditors by signing a new harsh memorandum. The official launch will take place on Tuesday, April 19 at the Chytirio Theatre, 44 Iera Odos str.
