Thousands of employees took to the streets of Thessaloniki Saturday to protest against the government.
The Union of Employees in the private sector along with those in the public sector and PAME took a front seat in the protests.
Mr. Koutsoumpas, KKE’s general secretary, Mr. Lafazanis, head of Laiki Enotita and Ms. Konstantopoulou, ex head of Greek parliament and current leader of political party ‘Pleusi’ expressed their support towards the protesters.
Police closed off several streets, its presence much more intense than last year when according to estimations two thousand fewer officers took part.
Egnatia Street was closed in both sides during the protesters’ march.
The trade unions’ dynamic presence in the 81st International Fair put much of the city’s normalcy on hold.
Almost 15.000 people showed up in peaceful spirit marching against measures that have a recessionary effect on both the labor market and the economy.
