MP Rachel Makri: When politics clash with … lifestyle

The married mother two boys, 7 1/2 and five, says her tattoo is a Spartan helmet and the Greek letter "Lambda" (Λ)

Newsroom April 15 05:42

Outspoken SYRIZA MP Rachel Makri adorned the cover of a local lifestyle magazine this week, with an array of “glam shots” inside the covers as well.

Makri, who switched from the rightist-populist Independent Greeks (AN.EL) to leftist SYRIZA before the Jan. 25 election and was re-elected, has often raised eyebrows with her … unconventional style and statements.

In an interview with the magazine “You” she speaks about her … tattoo and even “celebrity” Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis.

Referring to the latter, she says: “I hardly know Yanis, but I like him very much as a person. I think that (Greece’s) Parliament acquired another ‘diva’ after Rachel (speaking in the third person), because he’s also an unconventional type,” she opined.

The married mother two boys, 7 1/2 and five, says her tattoo is a Spartan helmet and the Greek letter “Lambda” (Λ), the first letter for Lacedaemon, another name for ancient Sparta.
