Thousands of refugees risk their lives with their families and children despite the bad weather to reach Greece hoping to survive. Some of them manage to land on the Greek islands safely, but many of them don’t make it.

The contribution of local people in the rescuing efforts is vital.

A 70-year-old from Lesvos did not hesitate to dive into the cold waters of the Aegean Sea to save the refugees when their boat was capsized. A photo of him was taking while being in the water shouting “The children, we must save the children…”.
