ADEDY: Greece has 567,000 civil servants

Down from 936,000 in 2011!

In 2011 there were 936,000 civil servants out of a population of 11.12 million, meaning that almost one in ten people held a job in the public sector!

Today, that number has been reduced by approximately 370,000, a figure cited during a press conference held Tuesday by board members of the Union of Greek Civil Servants (ADEDY), in view of the 24-hour general strike to take place on Thursday, November 24.

ADEDY’s representatives revealed the figures in order to condemn the shortages they believe to exist in key areas of the public sector as well as to justify their request for recruiting permanent staff, primarily in the areas of health, education, insurance funds and social services.
