Amphipolis: A monument inside the monument

All attention turns to the secure entrance of the fourth chamber with the anticipation of what will revea

Newsroom October 5 09:50

Step by step the investigation team of Ms Peristeri in Amphipolis anticipates for the moment that they will be able to ascertain what is hidden in the fourth chamber which is believed to be downwardly.

After being faced with several technical difficulties in the third chamber, they managed to enter the space behind the caryatids in order to support their view that this is a funerary monument dating from the 4th BC century and may even be described as a ‘typical form of a Macedonian tomb’.

The findings in the third chamber boosted the morale of the archaeologists. After the broken marble leafs and the nails found, the team of Ms Peristeri now hopes to reveal more findings in order to satisfy even more the scientific “thirst” and the anxiety surrounding the public which continuously awaits news of this great excavation.

All attention turns to the secure entrance of the fourth chamber  with the anticipation of what will reveal.
