Authorities rush to demolish shanty on day of Korakaki winning gold medal

Just hours before twin-medal Olympic winner Anna Korakaki won her gold medal in the 25m pistol in Brazil, the municipality of the city of Drama, where she lives, demolished the shanty she had been training for years at with her coach and father, Tasos Korakakis. The hurried decision and the timing by the Drama authorities to tear down the makeshift target practice site has raised questions behind the motives of the authorities. After Anna Korakaki won the gold medal, her mother, Fotini, in an outbreak informed her husband Tasos that they had torn down the shanty Anna had been training at. Anna’s relatives say municipality crews went to the site in the morning of the day the twin-medal winner was aiming to win her second medal and demolished the makeshift target site. Many suspect the authorities wanted to avoid any negative media attention regarding the unacceptable conditions Anna was training in. Some says there might have been a better target practice site, but she was not allowed to train there. Some photos released show the demolished shanty.
