Antikythera Mechanism used to predict eclipses

After decoding about 3,400 characters on the surviving surfaces

Scientists continue unraveling the mysteries of Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient astronomical calculator, after decoding about 3,400 characters on the surviving surfaces.

According to scientists, the mechanism was not only used as an astronomical calculator and a complete planetarium, but also as a unique system to predict eclipses.

The researchers believe that Antikythera Mechanism had also a calendar which may point to the creator of this ancient mechanism.

Moreover, one of the two extensive inscriptions located on a plate in front of the mechanism shows that the mechanism was also used as a planetarium to depict the movements of the planets.
