Aussies gather in Athens for Australia Day on Monday

Yes, but will there be Lamingtons?

Newsroom January 23 11:10

Australians and Greek Australians are celebrating Australia Day on Monday, January 26, at the Sports Bar in Koukaki, just a minutes walk away from the Acropolis Metro. The annual party is attended each year by Aussies in Greece, Greek Aussies, friends of Australia, friends of friends, riff raff or basically anyone that loves a laugh or an Australian….

There is an open Bar from 6-8 pm, but celebrations continue after 8 p.m. with Australian banter at what is billed as the “Aussiest bar in Athens” with the cheapest cocktails and beers – including Forsters – and of course authentic Fish & Chips!

Just in case you’re not an Aussie, Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on January 26, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and raising of the Flag of Great Britain at that site by Governor Arthur Phillip.

The Athens Sports Bar is at 3a Veikou, Koukaki, Athens. Just a short walk from the Athens Metro.
