The leftist Greek government is finding it quite difficult to reel in ‘big fish’ tax evaders, but at least it will be coming down hard on all those … corrupt beach party goers! The finance ministry has decided to ban beach parties, as the General State Property Secretariat forwarded an official document to local councils stressing that the use of public beaches is forbidden for such events.

According to the preliminary law, which had been voted in last May but had never taken effect, the use of public beaches was permitted only for beach bar businesses, canteens, sea vessels etc. The authorities do recognize that the actual implementation of the law is very difficult, as monitoring all the Greek coasts is practically impossible, but state officers have still been instructed to photograph “culprit beach party-goers” (our description) whenever possible…
