Belgian authorities’ investigations focus on two suspects

The suspects are Najim Laachraoui and Mohamed Abrini who are still on the run after police raids led to the arrest of the lead Paris attacker

Newsroom March 22 02:37

Two suspected terrorists are likely to be the focus of investigations for the deadly attacks occurred on Thursday at Brussel’s airports and metros.

Najim Laachraoui and Mohamed Abrini named by Belgian police as accomplices to November’s Paris attacks are still on the run after police raids that led to the arrest of Salah Abdeslam, the lead Paris attacker, on Friday.

As Telegraph reports, one theory is that the two men have probably launched the attacks in Brussels earlier than they had scheduled assuming that Abdeslam would reveal their plans to authorities during police interrogation.

Laachraoui, a 24-year-old Syrian, reportedly left Syria in February 2013 and travelled to Europe using the false name of Soutane Kayal with Salah Abdeslam.

Police have confirmed that his DNA was found on several explosive belts which were used in the November attacks.

Mohamed Abrini, a 30-year-old Belgian national of Moroccan origin, was seen with Abdeslam just before the November attacks, Telegraph claims.

Meanwhile, two men have been arrested by Belgian authorities a few hours after the terrorist attacks. According to international media, the names of the arrested have not been announced. However, photos of their arrest in Brussels are posted in the Internet.
