Brussels: Varoufakis-Sapin meeting moved up

In an attempt to mitigate the negative effects of the rupture in Athens, before markets opening on Monday

Following Friday’s less-than-ideal meetings between Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem with Greek leadership, Athens neophyte SYRIZA has apparently opted to move up contacts with its European partners.

Reversing the negative publicity from the past week and ahead of markets’ opening on Monday appears on the agenda, with a meeting of the French and Greek FinMins moved up.

According to reports, Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis will depart for Paris today to meet with Michel Sapin on Sunday instead of Monday. London, the capital of the country where he learned his economics as a college lad, is the next stop. Alexis Tsipras, meanwhile, heads to the “eternal city” on Tuesday for talks with Italy’s PM.
