Prices in a number goods will rise from June 1, according to the new hiked VAT passed in Greek parliament in the omnibus bill. The General Secretariat of Public Revenues uploaded a list with new adjusted prices on its website that provides for an 11% hike in cable TV subscribers, among other things.

Property, fuel, cigarettes, alcohol, beverages, mobile and fixed telephony rates, food products, public transport tickets, cab fares, road tolls and many other goods and services are expected to go up due to the 1% rise in VAT from 23% to 24%. The reduced VAT coefficient by 30% for 11 Aegean islands means that the islands of Syros, Thasos, Andros, Tinos, Milos, Skiros, Alonissos, Kea and Antiparos will see costs in books and medicine go up from 5% to 6%.

The same islands will also experience electricity and water, as well as meat, fish, milk, dairy products, fruit and vegetables, bread, hotel rates go up by 3.66% on average due to the VAT hike from 9% to 13%. Meanwhile, the increase in the special consumption cost on beer means retail prices will rise by up to 10%.
