Crete ranked No1 and Santorini No10

Once more, our country was advertised in one of the biggest newspapers in Sweden.

Specifically, an article was published by Elizabeth Montgomery in the column of special interest, “Allt om Resor” (“All about trips”) of the online edition of the Swedish newspaper Expressen with the title “The 10 top Greek islands” and the following introductory note: “Crete is the most popular island for 2013, according to the users of the website www.kalimera.se”.

In more details, as stated in the briefing paper of the Press and Communication Office of our embassy in Stockholm, the article presents the top ten islands as voted by the users of www.kalimera.se mentioning also briefly the special characteristics of each island. These islands are:

Among other things, it is noted that Crete is the largest Greek island and Naxos has wonderful beaches, some of which are ideal for windsurfing, and beautiful picturesque villages. In addition, the article refers to the film “The Big Blue” which was shot in Amorgos, while emphasizing the beauty of nature in Karpathos and the historical sights of Samos. Also, the island Rhodes is described as the fourth largest island of Greece with a great nightlife and cultural heritage. Then, the island Skiathos is presented as the “representative” of the Northern Sporades, followed by Skopelos where the film «Mamma Mia» was shot, highlighting both the green color of nature and the deep blue color of the sea. The list ends with Santorini and the well known volcanic eruption which occurred 3,500 years ago. Also, the article includes many outstanding photographs that highlight the beauty of each mentioned island.
