FYROM has sent back refugees and Greek gov’t did not realize it

FYROM claimed that they have sent back to Greece about 1,500 refugees, while Greek government confirmed that only 200 refugees were sent back

Newsroom March 16 08:24

FYROM authorities claimed that they have sent back to Greece about 1,500 refugees and immigrants who followed an alternative route and crossed a river in order to enter FYROM. However, the Greek authorities confirmed that only 200 refugees were sent back.

But, even if there are refugees who are still in FYROM, their readmission to Greece is a matter of hours. But, the most important is the message that FYROM sends to thousands of immigrants and refugees: “Do not attempt to cross the border. If you don’t drown, we will send you back using violence. The borders are sealed”.

Moreover, reports claim that at least three people drowned while trying to pass through the river, while refugees accused FYROM soldiers for severely beating them and forcing them to return to Greece through a small hole in the fence.

After this last incident, no one knows how the refugees will react. The disappointment and the terrible conditions in the muddy refugee camp in Idomeni may trigger violent incidents. And the consequences of such incidents would be unpredictable.
