A new rise in tensions between Greece and FYROM after the violent incidents occurred in Idomeni, with the neighboring country claiming that its police officers did what Greek police should have done.

In a statement issued by FYROM, there is no reference to the violation of the Greek territory, as it is clearly proved in video recording Sunday’s clashes, while they deny that they fired rubber bullets.

FYROM foreign ministry complained about Greek police’s alleged non-cooperation during yesterday’s clashes saying: “we requested the engagement of the Greek police authorities while the violent attacks coming from Greek territory continued on the ground. There were continuous requests for cooperation, information-sharing and preventive action to dissuade violent rioting of migrants and illegal border crossing from Greek into FYROM territory,” the ministry said in a statement.

FYROM’s interior ministry told BIRN on Monday that the Greek police did nothing to prevent the situation escalating.

“We are truly surprised by the Greek reaction in a situation in which Greek police forces just stood there and did nothing to help establish law and order and prevent these people from attacking our border,” a source of interior ministry said on condition of anonymity, as balkaninsight reports.
