German Finance Ministry: Aid payout to Greece in April not possible

“This is a complex procedure and no one in the Eurogroup expects this to be concluded by April 24,” she underlined.

A spokeswoman of the German Finance Ministry said on Wednesday that it was unrealistic to believe that euro zone countries will be able to pay out a new tranche of aid to Greece in April.

According to Reuters news agency, the spokeswoman noted that the German Government is currently negotiating with Greece and that, once there is a reform list, the next step would be a so-called Staff Level Agreement to make formal changes to the conditions of the aid program.

“This is a complex procedure and no one in the Eurogroup expects this to be concluded by April 24,” she underlined.

She also clarified that, “once this Staff Level Agreement is achieved, implementation will have to follow,” and that Greece would have to agree laws and at some point the institutions would conduct an implementation review and only then could aid be paid out.

“If people are under the impression that aid could be paid out in April, I think this is wrong,” she concluded.
