Global media covers Mistotakis’s death

Former Greek PM dies at 98

Newsroom May 29 11:37

International media offered extensive coverage of the news that former Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis passed away on Sunday at the age of 98. In an article titled “Constanine Mitsotakism, Who Forged Greek-EU Ties, Dies at 98”, presents some of the politician’s key contributions throughout his long career in Greek politics, especially his success in reinforcing ties with the EU. ABC news in a piece titled “Former Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis dies” outlines, among other things his fierce battles with the socialist party during his tenure as PM in the 90s. After his resignation as party leader, Mitsotakis often made public statements urging governments to take bolder steps in their market reforms, and he led an unsuccessful effort for Greece’s president to be elected directly by the people. He denied he coveted the country’s top job. Reuters also covered the news in a brief piece, as did Associated Press.
