Gov’t appoints SYRIZA MP’s husband to a “non-existent” public company

While schools and hospitals lack of essential resources

The decision of the government to appoint the husband of a SYRIZA MP to a state company with no clear job object has caused the political and social uproar.

Minister of Environment Panos Skourletis decided to place Argyris Argyros, husband of SYRIZA MP Zoi Kafantari, as member of the Administrative Board of a public company that has no scope of work raising many queries on the use of public money and unnecessary hirings in public domain in order to serve relatives and friends of SYRIZA, while schools and hospitals lack of essential resources and the government is ready to vote for new pension and salary cuts.

Many reactions expressed by not only the opposition’s parties, but also by MPs of co-governing party Independent Greeks with Thanassis Papachristopoulos stressing that “we must be very careful on this issue, [appointing relatives to public job positions], it is a big issue”.
