Gov’t in a rush to vote social security bill

Journalists’ union goes on strike offering a helping hand to the government and leaving the Greek public in the dark

“Economic recovery will begin as of Easter”, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had said, while his coalition partner had stated that “during Easter or a few days later, Greece will exit memorandum period as Cyprus did”.

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, who is more realistic, though, had said that if the program review did not complete until May, there would be devastating consequences.
Greece has not yet seen any economic recovery and the government is still trying to complete the program review by the end of June no matter what the cost might be by signing a fourth memorandum.

The prime minister decided to conduct a plenary session over weekend in order to discuss and quickly vote the pension and tax reforms despite the reactions expressed by all parties and labour unions which have declared a 48-hour strike.

Journalists’ union also decided to participate in the strike offering a helping hand to the government and leaving the Greek public in the dark in such critical times when the public need to be informed about the details of the new bills.
