Greek Prime Minister is looking for a way to de-escalate the protest actions of the Greek farmers by calling a cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning at 10:30.
Although the government claims that at the moment Greek program evaluation and refugee crisis are the main issues that have to be dealt with and not farmers’ protests, Prime Minister is expected to outline a compromise proposal for the social security reform concerning Greek farmers.
According to information, the government considers to provide a deadline extension on the 20% adjustment for social security contributions for farmers until 2020 and not until 2019, as it was initially proposed. There are, however, alternative scenarios for a comprehensive review of social security contributions for farmers.
Along with the proposal that will act as an excuse to convince farmers to participate in a debate and gradually weaken their protest, the government resorts to other actions to deal with farmers’ mobilizations.
It is trying to turn the Greek society against farmers, since they have set blockades on the Greek motorway network, while at the same time it attempts to divide the farmers.
