Greece ranks first in the list of EU countries with excessive internet use

More Greeks reported excessive internet use when calling the helpline, indicative of a growing problem

The EU average for internet use is 5%, but in Greece the rate is 31% according to figures by 31 lines of the Helpline Insafe Pan-European Network for the second half of 2014. Greece also has problems in the sector of protecting online privacy (16%, compared to the EU average of 12%). Furthermore cyber bullying in Greece is at 19%, the third-highest rate in the EU, compared to the EU average of 21%.

180 cases of excessive use of internet were reported to the Greek Awareness Center Safer Internet, 96 cases of online privacy abuse and 65 cases of cyber-bullying.

Reports concerning online relationships and cyber sex also rose to 10% at the beginning of 2015, compared to 7% in early 2014.
