Greek court annuls govt decision to suspend Eldorado Gold mining

Eldorado Gold’s mining to continue as plan

A Greek top administrative court on Monday annulled the government decision to suspend Canadian Eldorado Gold’s mining operations in northern Greece. Eldorado had appealed to overturn a ban on its plans to develop a gold mine in a forested area of northern Greece in a case widely seen as a case of the leftist government contesting foreign investment.

The court ruled that the reasons cited by the energy ministry to suspend Eldorado’s license of failing to carry out laboratory safety tests in Greece was not sufficient to revoke its permit. The final decision follows a temporary ruling last month that allowed Eldorado to resume mining.
