Greek Finance Ministry: IOE report vindicates SYRIZA on Greek debt

Greek government first priority is to restructure the Greek debt, says Ministry

The Greek Finance Ministry commented that the revelations by the IMF’s own watchdog, the Independent Evaluation office (IOE) vindicated the positions held by the Greek government, and then opposition party of SYRIZA, that the Greek debt was unattainable. The IOE report squarely accused the IMF of lack of transparency and caving in to political pressures by Greece’s EU partners to avoid restructuring the Greek debt before participating the first bailout program in 2010. Circles in the Greek Ministry continued by stressing the reports also proved that there was no actual restructuring of the Greek debt, as claimed by the 2012 Greek government, since European banks were ‘loaded’ with Greek bonds.
