Greek govt reply to Juncker ‘hard line’

Athens says creditors’ deal cannot be accepted in full; claims no deadline in talks

The SYRIZA government was quick to issue a response to the barbs unleashed by EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Saturday, responding in “non-paper” fashion with general six points, while claiming there is no deadline in negotiations with creditors.

Moreover, the main point of the Greek government’s reply was that the plan submitted by creditors cannot be accepted in its entirety, while echoing earlier statements by FinMin Yanis Varoufakis and inserting – of late – the factor of a “viable debt”. The government also said none of the Parliament-represented parties backed the proposal sent by institutional creditors.

The leftist SYRIZA government called its plan towards creditors “realistic and viable”, saying it was replete with “necessary fiscal measures and structural reforms it is willing to implement.”

Another point is that Athens awaits creditors’ observations and feedback on its proposals, whereas PM Alexis Tsipras will meet Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande in Brussels this week.
