Greek MEP reduces US Senator to silence with her reply on Macedonia name dispute

“No-one can deny us the right to veto pending resolution of this issue, so when I say that I come from Macedonia, I won’t have to specify which Macedonia I am referring to,” the young MEP underlined.

Eva Kaili, a former television news presenter and current member of the European Parliament, representing the Olive Tree democratic alignment, made a memorable appearance on Friday at an event organized in Hague on the occasion of the 60th Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

In her address, the Greek MEP defended Greece’s positions, spoke out in favor of an alliance between Greece, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt on the EEZ, asked for the de-escalation of the confrontation with Russia regarding the political situation in Ukraine and finally gave a fitting reply to the American president of the US delegation, who was expressing his stance in favor of Skopje’s accession to NATO, using the name “Macedonia”.

The Greek MEP, responding to the views expressed by the US Senator noted that “this is a debate that has been halted in the EU, as this name has not been recognized.”

The young MEP also added that she herself comes from Macedonia and that the problems that exist in countries outside the alliance, should be also resolved outside the alliance as they are critical, not only politically but also historically and financially.

“No-one can deny us the right to veto pending resolution of this issue, so when I say that I come from Macedonia, I won’t have to specify which Macedonia I am referring to,” the young MEP underlined.
