Heavy rain and storms to continue over weekend

Atmospheric low called “Galatia”

The extreme weather warning forecast by the National Meteorological Services (EMY) was confirmed, as a wave of heavy rains, storms, strong winds and topical hail has descend on Greece since late Friday. The weather phenomenon called “Galatia”, which is a low atmospheric pressure, is in full swing with cloud patches and passing rains affecting eastern parts of the country and expanding into the central and northern mountainous regions of mainland Greece. The sudden turn of the weather has caused disruptions in Athens, with roads overflowing and traffic problems.
