Greek government officials will confer with representatives of the “institutions” – EC, ECB, IMF – in style this week, with the upscale Hilton in central Athens serving as the meeting venue, instead of the staid ministry buildings where previous briefings took place.
The inspectors’ return to Greece, nearly a month and a half after the snap election propelled the radical left into power, aims to collect information on Athens’ finances that will be conveyed to the “Brussels Group” — another neologism resulting from often strained negotiations between the Greek government and eurozone creditors over the past month.
Another point that the “institutions’ inspectors” will reportedly focus on is whether Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis’ list of reforms are sufficient or whether new measures are necessary.
According to other reports, aides of the Greek FinMin will meet with the “Brussels Group” on Thursday morning, a session that will include Klaus Masuch from the ECB, IMF adviser Rishi Goyal and Commission representative Declan. A new participant in the meeting will be a representative of the ESM/EFSF mechanism.
