Juncker to Britain: No informal exit talks before article 50 is invoked

Speaking before the an emergency European Parliament plenary session, Tuesday, European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker warned Britain that there would no informal talks on the exit procedures before the UK official invoked article 50 the EU treaty. Juncker stressed Brussels respected the democratic vote of the British people to leave the EU, adding that he did not hide the fact that he was saddened by the result. ‘We cannot prolong the uncertainty’ he added, referring to the procedures of Britain’s official exit from the union. ‘The British vote cut off one of our sides’, adding that despite this setback those concerned about the purse of the EU should be reassured that. ‘We must move forward on all our common goals with a renewed optimism’, he said. The head of the EC stressed that he would fight for the vision of the EU for a peaceful continent.
