Juncker to Tsipras: Don’t assume eurozone will accept your plans!

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warned Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras that his promises for humanitarian relief to austerity-crushed Greek people would put Greece on a collision course with its EU partners

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told Greece’s new government flat out on Monday that it should not assume that eurozone members will agree with the pledges and promises Minister Alexis Tsipras made during the recent campaign. Juncker said Tsipras “only partly addressed’ the concerns Brussels has regarding his plans, which were detailed in the form of policy statements from Parliament’s podium the previous evening.

Speaking ahead of talks with Germany’s Social Democrats (SPD) on Monday, Juncker said the leftist Greek government’s plans to dismantle an austerity program linked with a bailout was akin to setting oneself on a collision course with EU partners.
